Diaspora

Diaspora is now sending out alpha invites to everyone who signed up. Since I was one of the ones who signed up, I will be able to get in at least by the end of October. 😮

Bu-but, didn’t Facebook fix up their privacy settings? And what about Google+, the more privacy conscious version of Facebook…?

Yeeesss, Facebook only started to fix up their privacy settings when it saw G+ as a notable competitor. But its image as a data-mining ground forever tarnished their name in my eyes.

And Google? >:O Google may act like they care about users’ privacy, but they are sleazier than Facebook. Giving users some of the privacy levels they want, but demanding that they use their real names instead of a chosen online alias. And this…(“He replied by saying that G+ was build primarily as an identity service, so fundamentally, it depends on people using their real names if they’re going to build future products that leverage that information“).

So I will test out Diaspora to see if it’s any good. If not, no worries!

(I did mention Appleseed Project sometime ago, but they don’t seem to have done anything development-wise since July, according to their Github page.)

Did Facebook change settings? I thought they just made more obvious the privacy settings that already existed.

I really don’t know (not like I can check for myself). Everyone keeps giving conflicting info. 😐

Yeah, I haven’t noticed many changes. It’s just more in-your-face about using friends filters, which already existed.
